As mom's we all have our "things". The signature activity that we do with our kids at any given time.
For me, snow days are my thing.
Snowed in, movie binge, and junk food. Only rule is no rules, but there is one standard that in my house will NEVER change. NO FIGHTING.
I mean, I don't really see how having no rules, no chores, no schedules, no nothing except PJ's, and lounging can cause fights.
But today it did.
"Mom she's bugging me"
"Mom she won't stop repeating herself"
"Mom he's making noises when he's chewing"
"he's not playing the right way"
"Mom, he's lying"
Probably after the hundredth complaint the Mantrum set in.
That's right, I had a mom sized tantrum.
I know I'm not alone, we all have them. They are the dirty little secret of the mom club. The thing we aren't suppose to talk about. Well simply because motherhood is butterfly's and rainbows of course.
But, today I did it.
The snarling, red faced mom dragon came out. I was done.
After sweating my ass off with workout's, meal planning, and calorie counting every damn day of the week I wanted to have a guilt free mommy pleasure binge day.
I wanted to throw the schedule, and chores out the window for the day. I wanted to forget what alarm clocks, and extracurricular activities looked like for just one damn afternoon.
And yes, I wanted to do it with my kids by my side.
Cuddling, laughing and movie watching.
Instead each child took their respective corners, and mommy sprawled out on the couch. Instead of bingeing on Disney movies, this mom blasted the Bravo channel. And to be honest, I enjoyed every minute of it.
At first, the guilt was real.
I felt sad.
But, the kids survived.
Laughing in their rooms, and quietly playing by themselves seemed to be what was on their agenda for the day.
So if we're keeping score, Mantrum for the win.
