Balance for me is a baby on my hip, a toddler pulling at my shirt while cooking with one hand, and juggling spices, homework, and phone calls, all while mediating three school aged tiny adults. In short, it’s exhausting.
Dreaming of parenthood images of well-planned dinners, neatly folded laundry piles, organized crafts, and cuddles on the couch with nightly bedtime stories, often come to mind. While actual parenthood is more comparable to running a marathon while juggling through a blazing fire. I’m not sure about you but balance is the last word that I can use to describe my parenting style.
The first step to anything is acknowledging, and accepting. Pretending that you have it all together when everything is falling apart is a disaster waiting to happen.
Giving yourself well deserved love is so important. Whether it means waking up early and doing your hair in the morning, or having a well-balanced meal to fuel or body. For me, it is destressing by working out daily. The thing I struggle the most with is remembering to eat breakfast which really brings my production down throughout the day. We all live on coffee, unfortunately it does not do much for sustaining life.
Balance by Bistro MD is a phenomenal meal delivery program that offers delicious physician designed entrees as well as snacks to choose from. Not only are the meals ideal for a healthy lifestyle with weight loss in mind, but they also serve up Heart Healthy, Gluten Free, Low Sodium, Dairy Free, Vegetarian, Diabetic, and menopause options. And the added bonus of it all is that not only are these meals ideal for woman, but men can enjoy just as equally.
I absolutely love Balance by Bistro MD because they offer a great variety of food and they don’t tie you down to a meal plan, or a purchase minimum, there isn’t even a membership fee which for me makes this a no brainer. I mostly forget or don’t have time to eat breakfast, so when I placed an order I stuck to breakfast and snacks.
This goes together with self-care. The better you feel about yourself the better you are, and the more efficient you are. I have a rule that I live by, leggings 2x a week max, this forces me to get dressed in “normal” clothes. I also make sure that no matter what time, or how late it is that I take a shower, and put some makeup on. I am not saying you’re not gorgeous without it, but for me it is my confidence booster. When I don’t look like a mombie, I feel better about myself.
Sometimes were not going to get it all done, and that’s ok. We need to pick and choose, and decide what is the most important and free the rest of it from our brain. When we constantly beat ourselves up about not doing this, or that, all in a given day we are just setting ourselves up for failure.
So now you know what the most important items are that you want to get done. Time to set goals for all of these items.
I always make a plan of attack for the things that I need to do. For example, this week my goals were to clean the car out, organize my daughter’s room, and clean all of the pillows on my couches. I scheduled in cleaning out the car when I go out to start the car in the morning to drive the children to school. I cleaned all of the pillows in my living this morning before I put in a load of wash in, and I have not gotten to my daughters room yet, but I have it scheduled in during one of our free afternoons.
You may be asking yourself what exactly does decluttering have to do with a balanced life style. In my opinion, how are you going to be balanced when you have a dust cloud following you, and besides it is just another thing that will sit in the back of your mind.
Decluttering may seem like a never ending job, and for me I often feel like it is. As things go out of the house, I feel the faster they come in. But, to ease my craziness throughout the week as I am doing my normal cleaning if I come upon a pile of things, or something that needs to be tossed, out it goes.
Organizing may be another one that you aren’t quite sure how it helps with a balanced lifestyle. But think to yourself, how often do you go crazy looking for something? All for the simple reason that everything might not have a place, but make a plan to change that.
Expect the unexpected
Planning for a balanced life, and doing everything to help center your life is a great start and motto to live by. Once I started doing all of the above I honestly have been less stressed, and my life has been less hectic. However I would be naive to say that sometimes things don’t come up that stop me from doing as planned. Rather than allowing for it to frazzle you and throw you off course, take it for what it is, and go with the flow.
From time to time whether you completed your goals, or wasn’t able to, or even if things just don’t seem to be working, it’s important to reassess. Look at what isn’t working, and try to figure out ways to correct the problem.
Finding balance in your life isn’t going to be a one day thing, nor should you approach it in that manner. Take one day at a time, and remember to breathe along the way.
